im not sure but what i DO know is that im pretty much done with Elite missions now that the new system is in place. i refuse to spend 1.5k on a key and then have it turn out to be a purple every time or something... im deffinately not done playing GW or anything like that but keys just arent worth it any more. before you took turns opening chests and youd get a purple every 8 keys or w/e NOW you might get purple after purple after purple with no way of spreading the shame. so im pretty much never going to buy keys again cause its kinda not so helpful anymore thats my 2 cents

And Anet doesn't like farmers, chest running is a form of farming. They are nerfing farming.

That's an interesting idea - or perhaps make the uses from a key increase with your treasure hunter title. e.g + 1 use for each rank of treasure hunter.
There's some interesting points from both points of view.
Also I don't think anet or one of the devs have actually said why the system was changed again, there might be a great reason i don't know, but I do think it is going to raise the financial bar quite a lot for players to reach these titles. I've already got as high as i feel i NEED to be for salvaging purposes, but many others might not. I do truly miss the social aspects of it though. My guild would chest run together every day and I met a ton of people in this game by doing chest runs at places like Imperial sanctum where there was always a huge number of people doing them. My post is truly to promote a discussion on the system though, but if i'm whining at all it's because I miss the whole social chest running scene.
Do continue.....

I agree they need to make chests drop more golds now. And places like FoW and elite missions with expensive keys should drop golds 100% of the time. Or bring back the old system.

Omar brings up the best point I think as well. Now it's a gamble for everyone, not just the first to open the chest.

I enjoy taking my chances, makes getting a gold all the more sweet when everyone else gets a purple then you get a gold. Noone forces you to buy keys, right? Plus there is the side benefit of no more "no u go first i dont want prupl" arguments in groups.

As long as that old system is modified so all chest drops are purple or gold
/signed.
The only reason why I think this new system would be an improvement is because now a group of people can't go on a farming run, get the most golds for the least number of keys bought, and then turn around and sell them. Now at least each farmer will have to test each chest.
However, it'd also be nice if chests randomly dropped 1-3 items for each person that opens them or if some greens can only be found via chest drop...

I think the people saying that they are glad the "You go first" aspect of chest running is gone...never really chest-ran that much. In my experience, most groups were pretty cool about spreading that role around, and in the most popular chest run areas, if you didn't do your part, you were dropped for someone that did. It worked out fair in the end.

the new system prevents leechers. the most annoying occurrence in a chest run group is when everyone huddles around a chest waiting for someone to "step up" and check a chest to see if its gold; that and huddling around a chest waiting for everyone to /roll 100 [how often does EVERYONE in a group /roll 100 anyways?]
dramatization [pre-chest update]
me: there are still 2 people who havent rolled
player#1: blank & blank hurry up and roll!!!!
me: just type /roll 100 in chat
[long silence, 2 minutes goes by]
player#2: omg u **c*in noobs just roll already!!!!
[by this time, weve aggro-ed a group of enemies causing everyone in our group to run in every which direction aggro-ing even more mobs of enemies, which results in the death of half our group]
unopened chest#1: "bunch of morons"
after many instances and variations of the above dramatization, i told myself to view chest runs as a means to gain my treasure hunter title. from that point on, i would always just run to all the chests and open them before our group had the chance to huddle or even type the word "roll".

Personally, I think they should reinstate the old system. They want people to pllay together more often and Chest Running was at most times a group project. And, to comment on the people not wanting to waste keys, we have always took turns on checking chest. I liked the old sysatem, but having random drops now DOES allow for lesss items on the market, though with NF and the use of Inscriptions it is kinda pointless that they changed the system. But, Hey, thats my opinion.

Is it just me, Or those who have been chest farming get a say, 90% chance of having Purple items? I have been Farming (with heros and hench) the Escovald forest for the last 3-4 days, and, I'm not kidding, out of 25 chests, TWO gold drops. Out of the foes I killed? 3 gold drops.
They give us all these titles, yet they make it less and less afordable for us to get them, They Discourage farming, yet there are such things as FoW armour which costs millions.
THEN they wonder why people pay real money for ingame money.

When I first read this threads title, that's what I thought he was talking about.
Anyway, I prefer the new system. No more "i'm not wasting a key on that chest" bs
